More than 200 people were tested March 14 during a drive-thru COVID-19 screening in Lewes.

Beebe Healthcare in Lewes offered drive-thru screening at its Bayview Medical Center off Savannah Road, and dozens of vehicles were lined up before the 10 a.m. event began.

This screening was for those who had symptoms, had traveled outside the United States in the past 14 days or had exposure to a person who had tested positive for COVID-19. Symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, difficulty breathing, sore throat and cough.

Beebe Healthcare spokesperson Christina Deidesheimer said 247 people were screened using a series of questions to determine their eligibility to receive a COVID-19 test. Of those, 227 received a COVID-19 test, with results from LabCorp coming in about seven days, Deidesheimer said.

All participants were given information on next steps to take, including a follow-up with their family doctor or Beebe staff.

Deidesheimer said Delaware Division of Public Health will confirm positive cases, but will not say where those individuals were tested.

A drive-thru event held in Wilmington by ChristianaCare March 13 tested 536 people for COVID-19 at no cost to those being tested, officials said. Test results should be available within two to five days, officials said.
