Bertha M. Bennett, loved by many

April 23, 2026

Bertha M. Bennett, 100, of Milford, passed away peacefully Sunday, April 19, 2026, at the Genesis Milford Center. She was the daughter of the late Hiram and Bertha Cole.

Bertha worked as a telephone operator for 28 years. She raised her four sons, who enlisted in the military and served their country proudly – something she was very proud of.

After moving from Florida, Bertha lived in Milford for the last 20 years. She was an avid reader, and enjoyed knitting, pottery and going to the beach. Bertha loved dogs, especially her shih tzu, Abby.

Bertha never met a stranger and was loved by everyone. Last year for her 100th birthday, her family held a birthday/family reunion with almost the entire family in attendance. She will be dearly missed.

In addition to her parents, Bertha is preceded in death by her brother, William Cole.

Bertha is survived by her four sons, Mark Bennett, Mike Bennett (Vickie), Jan Bennett and Jeffrey Bennett (Cathy); six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; three nieces; one nephew; and many friends.

The family requests you honor Bertha in your own meaningful way, whether it’s reading a new book, knitting, or hugging your dog a little more.

Arrangements are entrusted to Thomas E. Melvin & Son Funeral Home Inc., Harrington.
