Bob McVey named 2017 Realtor of the Year by SCAOR

July 8, 2017

During a June 22 awards luncheon for members, the Sussex County Association of Realtors recognized Robert “Bob” McVey, the current public policy committee chair and 2016 Delaware Association of Realtors past president, as its 2017 Realtor of the Year.

McVey, a Rehoboth Beach native and Cape Henlopen High School graduate, was voted as the winner of the prestigious award by the past five Realtors of the Year. He is now eligible to compete for the title of Delaware Realtor of the Year, which will be announced by the Delaware Association of Realtors during a ceremony at Dover Downs Oct. 12.

“Mr. McVey is one of the hardest-working professionals in the real estate business. It was an honor to present the award to Bob,” said Christopher Lind, SCAOR president-elect. “He was a co-winner of the award in 2014, and was nominated again due to his commitment to public policy efforts, volunteerism and experience serving the real estate community.”

McVey commenced his real estate career as a licensed Realtor in 1994. Before joining SCAOR, he served the country in the U.S. Coast Guard, retiring in 2001. He became an associate broker in November 2002 and received the Century 21 Masters Club Emerald Award in 2003. He assists potential clients from the Mann and Sons Inc. Rehoboth Beach office, and is well versed in residential and commercial real estate.

When not representing buyers and sellers, McVey is a certified volunteer umpire for baseball and softball. He has been selected in the past to umpire the Senior League Softball World Series in Sussex County and local tournaments including Little League games throughout the Delmarva Peninsula.

SCAOR looks for many qualities when searching for the annual winner of this prestigious award, including board activity on the local and state levels, business accomplishments, involvement in civic activities, significant contributions and awards, and the so-called Realtor spirit. The latter includes helping others in the industry, being accessible to the local board of directors and working to improve the Realtor image.

“A well-deserved honor for Bob McVey to receive Realtor of the Year. As long as I have known Bob, I have observed how deeply he cares about our profession and keeps our best interests at the forefront daily. We are fortunate to have him so intimately involved at the local, state and national associations,” said Brigit Taylor, SCAOR president.

In addition to the annual Realtor of the Year Award, SCAOR also named eastern Sussex County native and Coldwell Banker Resort Realty Senior Vice President of Marketing and Client Services and Associate Broker Kathlyn “Kathy” Newcomb, as its 2017 Good Neighbor of the Year.

Newcomb, who attained a real estate license in 1995 and a broker license in 2010, was recognized for her volunteerism throughout the Cape Henlopen community. She has contributed countless hours to various charitable organizations and is currently serving as treasurer and board member of Milton Little League and board member for the Greater Lewes Foundation. She is also co-owner of Irish Eyes Pub, which sponsors many charitable events throughout the year. Newcomb also supports the Cape Community Fund, an organization that provides financial support for residents of all ages within the Cape Henlopen School District.

The Sussex County Association of Realtors was chartered in 1949 and has steadily grown in size, scope and mission during its nearly seven decades in Sussex County.
