Bobby Gene Robinson, loved life

March 15, 2021

Bobby Gene Robinson, 92, of Lewes and Jensen Beach, Fla., formerly of Middletown, passed away Wednesday, March 3, 2021, in Stuart, Fla. Bobby was born Feb. 3, 1929, in Poplar Bluff, Mo., to Hiram Russell and Mary Emily (Marshall) Robinson.

Bobby served two separate terms in the U.S. Navy until 1957.

Bobby was an avid horseshoe, cornhole, bowling and poker strategist. He was affectionately known as Cornhole Bob and Bowling Bob. He also loved to read and go camping. He just plainly loved life and being active. In earlier years he volunteered at St. George’s United Methodist Church and for the Middletown Band Boosters, and managed the Middletown Bowling Alley. In later years he loved volunteering at the Delaware State Grange and Delaware State Fair, and volunteering in his Jensen Beach/Ocean Breeze community. His hobbies included metal detecting and fishing.

He loved joking with family and friends about how warm the weather in Florida was, while some of us are in Delaware not loving the cold winters. His kids loved joking with him about the weird and colorful outfits they had to wear growing up. He was so very much liked and loved by all who knew him. He had an uncanny ability to just start up a conversation with anyone as if they had known each other for years. He will be greatly missed.

Bobby is survived by his partner of 16 years, Nancy Burbage; his children, Russell Winson of Twin Falls, Idaho, Jean Elliott (Mike) of North East, Md., Mary Smith of Newark, Barbara Miller (Rob) of Middletown and Stewart Robinson of Dover; 18 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; and his extended family, Debra Dempsey of South Carolina, Brenda Jones of Delaware and Mark Burbage of Virginia, and their families.

He is preceded in death by his parents, son Bobby Winson, brothers Russell and Roy Robinson, and sister Mary Sue McDonald.

Services will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to Delaware State Grange, 911 S. Governors Ave., Dover, DE 19904.
