Boulevard Ford moves to renovated showroom in Georgetown

April 19, 2012

The big blue oval is moving, and the landmark automobile showroom at the intersection of DuPont Highway and Route 18/404 in Georgetown will soon be a memory.

Boulevard Ford Lincoln, however, is still going strong, in a newly renovated facility just a few hundred feet away at 40 Bridgeville Road.

There's been a Boulevard in Georgetown since 1945, but the current Boulevard Auto Sales Inc. dates from 1959, when Joseph Bateman took over the Ford and Lincoln retailer. Eventually his sons joined the business. Bernie is retired, but John and Tjark Bateman, along with Jim Blecki, who joined them in 1998, continue local ownership of the longtime Sussex County automobile dealership.

Boulevard Ford Lincoln has numerous distinctions. In addition to being Sussex County's oldest Ford store, it is the only dual Ford and Lincoln dealership in the county and also the only one selling Ford and Lincoln factory-certified preowned cars and trucks. A second Ford-Lincoln store also bears the Boulevard logo in Lewes on Coastal Highway, just north of the Movies at Midway theaters. Both locations feature complete parts and service departments and sizable inventory of new and used cars and trucks.

The renovations at the Georgetown facility include a brand-new facade, a new guest business center with computer access, redesigned customer lounge area and enhancements to the main showroom.

The familiar blue oval Ford sign towering over Route 113 will be relocated next to its Lincoln counterpart on Bridgeville Road. Boulevard's service center is open weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the sales department operates from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. Both are also open on Saturday until 4 p.m.

As for the corner lot on DuPont Highway, it will soon be home to a Royal Farms convenience store, and DelDOT is planning improvements at the busy intersection to be completed later this year.

With customer loyalty generations deep and a focus on personalized service and support, Boulevard Auto Sales Inc. is well positioned to continue its legacy as a Sussex County tradition for new and returning customers alike.
