Brick Hotel supports local charities with guest bartenders

April 20, 2016

Lynn Lester, owner of The Brick Hotel in Georgetown, wishes she could donate to every single entity that comes through her door.  But since that isn’t possible, several years ago she came up with a unique and creative way to give back to the community.  At The Brick, March of each year is designated as Charity Bartending Month.  The Brick opens its doors to groups, organizations, and more who want to raise funds in support of their respective causes.

"This is an annual thing, and we love having new and/or different organizations participate - it's truly a win-win for all involved," says Lester.  Organizations bring in a guest bartender who works alongside Lester's' staff taking care of the customers. The Brick donates $1 for every drink sold, along with a large percentage of the tips generated at the bar. In addition, The Brick donates 10 percent of the dinner sales to those who come out in support of the organization.

This year’s Charity Bartending Month allowed The Brick to support Clear Space Theatre, the Seaford High School Class of 1971, Student Nurses Association, Sparsile Dance, Tribe Softball, Seaford Acorn Club and the Get Well Gabby Foundation. “While this year our donations totaled about $1,200, we have found that these events are just as much about fostering a comraderie among the organization and its supporters. It’s truly a fun night for all involved, but there’s no question that some guest bartenders receive a little more harassment than others,” she said.
