Bryan Mack runs for funds for Brozey Scholarship

June 21, 2018

Cape 2008 graduate Bryan Mack recently donated more than $750 to the Scott Brozey “Lead by Example” Memorial Scholarship. He ran in the 28th annual Westside Way 10K in Wilmington June 9 and received donations for the scholarship. He also ran the race as a special tribute to his and Brozey’s grandmothers who both recently passed away. He finished the race in 41 minutes and placed second overall.

“It's nice to see how many people continue to show support and keep Scott's legacy going strong,” said Brozey’s friend and former teammate.

The scholarship was co-founded by Brozey friend’s Dan Cook and Cape coach Mark D’Ambrogi to help give a Cape lacrosse player assistance in following their dream of playing intercollegiate lacrosse. Brozey was tragically killed in a pedestrian accident in 2016.

Former Brozey teammates who donated were Franc Cook, Al Albanese, Bo Bartley, Alden Nelson, Rory Rogan, Ian Stewart, Blake Woodruff, Wil Heuring, Ryan Nelson, Jimmy Johnson, Charles “Frenchie” Moreau, Matt Blackburn and Mack from the Class of 2008; Brian Riggin from the Class of 2006; Kyle Norwood and Nick Priano from the Class of 2009; Dan Steele, Tim Voss, Chris Woodruff and John Young from the Class of 2010; James Cook, Tim Blackburn, Andrew Scrutchfield and Chris Young from the Class of 2011; and Charlie Burton, Todd Keen and Jeb Monigle from the Class of 2014. Donations were also made from Brozey’s Del Tech teammate Arie Dinkleloo, friend Mackenzie Peet and the Young family.

“Lacrosse is a brotherhood,” said Brozey Scholarship founder Dan Cook. “When we lose one of our own, the brotherhood steps up to remember their teammate and keep his wonderful memory alive. Scott was a great player and, even more than that, he was a wonderful human being.”

This year’s recipient was Liam Zolper, who will play lacrosse for Lynchburg College in the fall.
