BSA Troop 1 honors Eagle Scout Eric Murray

January 14, 2026

Boy Scouts of America Troop 1, chartered by St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Lewes, honored Eric M. Murray who earned the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest achievement in Scouting.

To qualify for Eagle Scout, Murray completed a demanding set of requirements, including earning at least 21 merit badges, demonstrating leadership within his troop, and planning and completing a community service project.

Based on national statistics, only about 7% of Scouts attain this distinction.  The achievement reflects not only individual effort but also the support of troop leadership, fellow scouts, and families.

For his Eagle Scout service project, Murray constructed a new storage room inside the riding arena at the Southern Delaware Therapeutic Riding center. The space was designed to securely store and protect equipment used for riding programs and horse care. The project took several months of planning and eight days to construct. The completed storage room provides long-term benefits to the organization and its participants.

Murray, 17, attends The Crossing in Lewes and is a junior at Delmarva Christian High School. He plans to attend college and pursue a career in sports broadcasting. His extracurricular activities include holding a leadership position in his youth group, serving as captain of his basketball team, acting as a community group leader, participating in the Ambassador Club and serving on the school’s spirit committee.

Troop 1 leaders and families expressed pride in Murray’s accomplishment, noting that the Eagle Scout rank reflects perseverance, responsibility and a strong commitment to service. Eagle Scouts are widely recognized for the positive impact they have on their communities and beyond.

BSA Troop 1 has served the Lewes community since 1927, helping young people develop leadership skills, character and a commitment to service.
