Caitlin Wood, a 2011 Cape Henlopen High School graduate, has been awarded the first $1,000 Performing Arts Scholarship presented by the Prudential Gallo-Touch of Italy Foundation.
The award goes to a Cape High performing arts student, based upon his or her talent and body of work, grade point average, community activities and favorable recommendations from school officials.
While at Cape, Caitlin was a National Honor Society student, athlete, performing arts student and dance team member, and volunteered for community service projects. She performed in a variety of Cape High productions, including "Grease," "Red vs. the Wolf," "Poe! Poe! Poe!," "Fiddler on the Roof," "The Emperor’s New Clothes" and "A Midsummer Night’s Dream."
Wood also performs with a professional theater group, Clear Space Productions in Rehoboth Beach, and she has been a counselor for the company’s summer intensive camp.
Wood plans to attend the University of North Carolina at Greensville in the fall.
The Prudential Gallo-Touch of Italy Foundation, which sponsors the annual scholarship, was established by the owners of the two respective Lewes businesses as a vehicle to give back to the Lewes-area community. Qualifying Cape Henlopen High School seniors are welcome to apply for the scholarship next spring by speaking with their guidance counselor at Cape.
