Calligraphy workshops with Lewes Lettering Co. to start Oct. 21

October 13, 2018

Lewes Lettering Co., a calligraphy studio owned and operated by Lewes resident Katy Ackerman, will host two types of in-person workshops this fall and winter, at the new Willow Marie & Co. barn on Coastal Highway in Lewes. Ackerman will lead Intro to Pointed Pen Calligraphy and Faux Calligraphy workshops.

The Intro to Pointed Pen Calligraphy workshop teaches the basics of the traditional art of calligraphy with pen and nib. Using these tools, participants will create the distinct thick and thin lines that form modern calligraphy. This class is perfect for people who have ever wanted to hand-address their own envelopes, and wow family and friends.

In the Faux Calligraphy workshops, Ackerman will teach participants the perfect method to use when working on non-paper surfaces like chalkboards, wood and canvas. Ackerman will teach attendees how to create a whimsical hand-lettered look directly on wood pallets supplied by local furniture and décor store, Salvaged. Other projects will be themed around the holidays, giving participants the chance to create beautiful customized décor for their homes.

Both workshops provide the perfect opportunity to create unique, handmade gifts for the upcoming holiday season, and include all supplies and plenty of resources for attendees to continue practicing.

Intro to Pointed Pen Calligraphy workshops will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Sundays, Oct. 1, Nov. 18, Dec. 16, and Jan. 6.

A Faux Calligraphy class on a Thanksgiving/fall-related project will be offered from 6 to 8:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 2; and a faux calligraphy class on a Christmas/winter-related project will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m., Friday, Dec. 14. Both holiday-themed workshops are BYOB.

Faux Calligraphy on Wood Pallet Sign workshops will be held from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Sun, Dec. 9, and from 6 to 8:30 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 23.

The venue for the workshops, the barn at Willow Marie & Co, is original to the property, dating back over 100 years, and was previously named the Sandy Brae Stables. Willow Marie & Co. owners have kept the authentic integrity of the structure while modernizing and updating it for today's use. It is a new hotspot for special events and workshops. There is also a Willow Marie & Co. retail store for women's clothing and accessories, and all attendees of the calligraphy workshops receive 10 percent off their same-day purchases.
