Thank you to those community members and organizations who supported the recent Music and Memory Used iPods Drive. Your donations are greatly appreciated.
Over the past year the CAMP Rehoboth & Friends Music & Memory Project, as well as Cape Henlopen High School, Coastal Concerts, and the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute have been collecting used iPods. These have been made available to residents of Harbor Healthcare (Lewes), Harrison House (Georgetown), Milford Place (Milford), The Moorings at Lewes, and Beebe Adult Day Services (Lewes) who have dementia/Alzheimer's Disease. Observations and studies have shown that listening to personalized music can help "bring back" people with dementia and help them be in the present, even after the music has stopped. It also provides enjoyment and improves their quality of life.
Music and Memory is a nonprofit organization that provides the framework; the CAMP Rehoboth Chorus & Friends Music & Memory Project fundraises locally to pay for training and equipment to make make it happen in Sussex County. New iPods are no longer available, but used iPods and MP3 Sandisk music players continue to be used by more and more people with dementia and other disorders.
For more information about the Music and Memory Organization, visit musicandmemory.org; and for more information about the CAMP Rehoboth Chorus & Friends Music & Memory Project, email crcmusicandmemory@gmail.com, or call 302-227-5620. Used iPods continue to be accepted at CAMP Rehoboth, 39 Baltimore Ave., Rehoboth Beach.
