CAMP Rehoboth to host division of arts award winners Aug. 9

July 22, 2021

Each year, an exhibit of works by the Delaware Division of the Arts award winners travels from the Biggs Museum in Dover to appear at CAMP Rehoboth. This year, the winners feature a variety of art forms and include 25 Delaware artists – choreographers, composers, musicians, writers, folk artists, painters, sculptors, photographers and more.

The exhibition will be on display from Saturday, Aug. 7 to Tuesday, Aug. 31.

A reception will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m., Monday, Aug. 9, a Meterless Monday when visitors do not need to feed the parking meters in Rehoboth. Attendees can socialize in the courtyard and tour the visual art in the gallery, then enjoy performances and readings by the artists.

Delaware’s Individual Artist Fellowships recognize artists for their outstanding quality of work. This year, the division received work samples from 121 artists, and 25 were selected. Fellows are from throughout Delaware including Arden, Bear, Clayton, Dover, Lewes, Long Neck, Milton, Newark, Rehoboth Beach, Smyrna and Wilmington, with many residing in Sussex and Kent counties.

A highlight of the reception will be a demonstration of Kim Klabe’s wine and beer pour technique. Working in pours reconnected her to the creativity and imagination she experienced in art school. “What we create should come equally from our heart and minds. With heart and passion, the art comes alive,” said Klabe.

Artist Howard J. Eberle said he believes in the drama of simple design, eliminating the clutter of everyday life, stripping away the unnecessary to get to the essence.

T. Angela Taylor knew she would be an artist one day. “I went downtown to SoHo and saw the excitement and the colorful people selling art on the street,” she said.

Interested individuals can also stop by to see the exhibition from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday to Friday at CAMP Rehoboth, 37 Baltimore Ave., Rehoboth Beach.
