April 4, 2024

The Cape boys’ lacrosse team lost 15-9 to the LaSalle Explorers Wednesday afternoon in a game played at Washington College in Chestertown, Md. The weather was wet and windy, and play was at times sloppy, with lots of dropped balls and unforced turnovers by both teams.

Cape trailed 7-1 at halftime but played the second half even up, 8-8, which included an 8-6 advantage in the fourth quarter.

“LaSalle is a really good team and very strong on defense,” said coach Geoff Shupard. “They are patient and play smart. But we saw some good things from our team, and we made progress. We knew our schedule was tough on the front end.”

Cape was led in scoring by Burke Healy with 3, Ryan Morgan 2, Jake Schell 2, and single goals from Anderson Smith and Mike Guenther.

Cape assists came from Guenther with 2, and single assists from Schell, Morgan and Jake Hutchinson.

Cape will play Monday, April 8, at Sts. Peter and Paul of Easton, Md., then host The Hill School of Pottstown, Pa., at 4:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 10.

Sts. Peter and Paul is 2-2 on the season, having lost to Severn School 22-10 and St. Mary’s 17-3 before posting consecutive home wins over Parkside 13-4 and James M. Bennett 12-8.

Cape defeated Sts. Peter and Paul 22-4 last season. The Vikings have been playing the Saints on and off for the last 45 years.
