May 4, 2023

The Cape boys’ lacrosse team fell behind Salesianum 5-1 in the first quarter and couldn’t recover in a 10-6 loss May 1 at Abessinio Stadium.

Six different players scored for the 7-3 Vikings, as Luke Burton, Michael Guenther, Jack Schell, C.J. Fritchman, Cody Trivits and Jahden Cannon each tallied a goal.

Cape freshman goalie Mason Trench made nine saves.

“Salesianum is a very good team,” said Cape coach Geoff Shupard. “We always know they are going to be a tough matchup. Defensively, I thought the guys did a good job, and Mason Trench played very well in goal. We didn’t have the best night on offense, but I know the guys will keep working hard to keep getting better every day.”

The Vikings traveled to Sussex Tech May 3, and shut out the Ravens 23-0, taking 39 shots in the contest.

Burton, Schell and Cannon each scored a hat trick in the game. Joe Coveleski, Guenther, Evan Burris, Thomas Gibbs and Tanner Wyshock all tallied two goals. Fritchman, Burke Healy, Andrew Wolak and Tajear Freeman had a goal apiece.

Brexton Carter tallied four assists, while Schell tallied three, Burton and Fritchman each had two helpers, and Coveleski, Anderson Smith, Gibbs and Brady Mauro assisted on goals.

The Vikings will host Appoquinimink Saturday, May 6, for Scott Brozey Day. Proceeds from a 50/50 and other donations will benefit the Scott Brozey Lead by Example Memorial Scholarship.
