Cape boys’ tennis downs Seahawks 4-1

The Cape boys’ tennis team moved to 4-1 on the season with a 4-1 win over Sussex Academy April 15.

Cape’s Oliver Townsend defeated the Seahawks’ John Eichten 6-1, 7-5 at first singles. Cape second singles A.J. Justiniani downed David Wanalista 6-1, 6-0. The third-singles match was won by Cape’s Nate Hoang 6-0, 6-3 over the Seahawks’ Matt Perchiniak 6-0, 6-3.

Cape’s first-doubles team of Trent Kauffman and Krish Prattipati defeated the Seahawks’ Kieran Probert and Cole Wanalista 5-7, 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (10-7 tiebreak).

The Sussex Academy second-doubles team of Logan Mattie and James VanPelt won over Cape’s Brody Trewartha and Sullivan Nadan 6-4, 7-6 (7-5).

The Vikings will play host to 3-3 Caesar Rodney Friday, April 19.

Dan has worked for the Cape Gazette for more than 30 years as a photographer and reporter, covering high school sports and happenings around eastern Sussex County. He won a photography award from the National Newspaper Association, and numerous awards from the Maryland, Delaware, D.C. Press Association. A Delaware native, Dan graduated from Cape in 1972 and returned as a teacher and coach in the 1980s. He retired from the classroom in 2016. He was inducted into Cape High’s Legends Stadium in 2016. In his spare time, Dan enjoys spending time with his wife, two sons, grandchildren and dogs.
