The Vikings will host Archmere Friday, May 23, at Legends Stadium in the second round. They defeated the Auks 16-5 May 1.
Grant Conway led the Vikings with five goals. Burke Healy tallied four, including an assist that moved him past the 200-point milestone for his high school career. Braddock Smith hit for three goals, and Brenner Short scored twice. Evan Burris, Tanner Wyshock, Ronan Presler, Brycean Stewart, Jaxson Holgerson and Alan Grapski each scored a goal.
Healy was credited with five assists. Short had a pair of helpers, while Grant Conway, Burris, Hank Anderson, Tate Mauro, Marshall Keys and Max Wyshock each assisted on a goal.
“It was a great way to start the tournament,” said Healy. “We need to clean up our shooting though. We have some practices to work on that and other things that needs sharpening.”
In the last three games, the defense has given up just four goals.
“It feels great to get close to the shutout,” said Cape defenseman Eric Uffleman. “But we’ll take giving up just two goals. Our face-off guys were awesome winning possessions for us. Mason [Jack] and Channing [Smith] both did great tonight.”
Cape keepers Mason Trench made three saves, while Patrick Little had one stop.
“We are just going to concentrate on us,” said coach Geoff Shupard. “There are things we need to work on in practice. We didn’t shoot well early, but that improved as the game went on. That’s a positive thing.”
