The Cape Henlopen girls’ lacrosse team jumped out of the box against visiting Sussex Tech May 5, springing to an 11-1 halftime lead and coasting to an 18-1 victory.

The Vikings are 11-1 on the season with games remaining Tuesday, May 11, at Milford, then home Saturday, May 15, versus Saint Mark’s.

Cape had a triple hat trick in the game, as Riley Keen, Ella Rishko and Kelly Bragg each had three goals. Emily Monigle tallied two goals, while Haley Craig, Carrie Clausius, Molly Mendez, Lexi Nowakowski, Lindsay D’Ambrogi, Lauren Head and Maren Buckaloo each scored once.

Assist leaders were Keen with three, Ella Rishko with two, and Craig, Clausius, Monigle, D’Ambrogi, Lulu Rishko and Bragg with one each.

Goalie saves were Destiny Kusen with three and Anna Lopez with one.

Sussex Tech’s goal was scored by Jayla Powell. Alex Simmons had six saves for the Ravens.

The Ravens are 6-4 on the season with four games remaining.

“We are working on getting better and staying focused,” said Cape coach Lindsey Underwood.

The DIAA State Championship game is scheduled for Thursday, May 27, at Dover High School.

There are currently nine teams in Delaware with a winning percentage of .750 or better. Tatnall (11-0) and Caravel (10-0) are undefeated.

Dover High, with a 13-8 win over Sussex Academy May 5, has three games remaining with a chance to go 12-3, which would be its best record in school history.

Debbie Windett,  a Cape assistant coach who is on the state lacrosse committee, said, “The private schools are back and there are publics like Middletown, SAAS and Dover that can knock anybody off. It is going to be a competitive and wild tournament.”
