Cape girls’ tennis grounds Eagles 4-1

Vikings follow with 3-2 win over Indian River

The Cape girls’ tennis moved to 5-2 on the season with a 4-1 victory over Smyrna at home. 

In singles matches, Julia DiSabatino won 6-2, 6-2 over Smyrna’s Isabella Mancini, Kennedy Spath defeated Ava Tush 6-1, 6-0 and Ida Molzahn defeated Smyrna’s Zoe Townsend 6-4, 0-6, 6-3. 

Cape’s Madeleine Ruffcorn and Mia Thompson defeated Sydney Anton and Emma Sampson 6-3, 7-5 in doubles action. 

The Vikings improved to 6-2 on the season with a hard-fought 3-2 win over Indian River April 24. 

Earning the only singles win for Cape was Spath with a 6-2, 6-1 win. Cape swept the doubles matches, as Courtney Kosc and Riti Patel won 6-3, 6-0 and Ruffcorn and Thompson won 6-1, 6-0. 

The Vikings will host 5-3 Dover at 3:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 28. 

 

Dan has worked for the Cape Gazette for more than 30 years as a photographer and reporter, covering high school sports and happenings around eastern Sussex County. He won a photography award from the National Newspaper Association, and numerous awards from the Maryland, Delaware, D.C. Press Association. A Delaware native, Dan graduated from Cape in 1972 and returned as a teacher and coach in the 1980s. He retired from the classroom in 2016. He was inducted into Cape High’s Legends Stadium in 2016. In his spare time, Dan enjoys spending time with his wife, two sons, grandchildren and dogs.
