Cape Henlopen Elks install new officers

During an inspiring ceremony, the Cape Henlopen Lodge 2540, Order of Elks installed Ralph Patterson as exalted ruler for the fraternal year 2019-20.

Grand Exalted Ruler Jay V. Strong Jr. of Towson Lodge 469 opened the evening with a prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag. During the ceremony, he charged Grand Esquire John Mazzotta to lead the elected officers into the hall for their swearing-in to their new positions. Mazzotta was honored for his service, and his accomplishments were read to the many guests in attendance.

Elected officers are Exalted Ruler Ralph Patterson; Past Exalted Ruler, Leading Knight Kelly Barber; Loyal Knight Sam Lesher; Lecturing Knight Joanne Mayer; Esquire John Marcus; Chaplain Phyllis Patterson; Inner Guard Pat Guditus; Tiler Ed Guditus; Secretary Becky Hollinger; Treasurer Karen Palmer; Tom Clougher; one-year trustee; Michael Gilsenan, two-year trustee; Paul Holton, past exalted ruler, three-year trustee; Lynn Clougher,  past exalted ruler, four-year trustee; and Gary Eckenrode, past exalted ruler, five-year trustee.

In recognition of exceptional service to the lodge, awards were made to Elk of the Year Joanne Mayer, Officer of the Year Sam Lesher Jr. and Citizen of the Year Tom Volatile.

Dinner was served, and Patterson's beautiful 5-year-old granddaughter Giuliana danced in the rainbow of lights along the floor to music provided by DJ Norm Latham.
