Cape Henlopen Senior Center helps local charities
For the second year in a row, the Cape Henlopen Senior Center celebrated the holiday season by supporting those in need.
Through a program called Be a Blessing – Blessing Someone in Need During Christmas Season, members, the board of directors and staff donated items such as socks, gloves, hats, scarves, lotions, assorted toiletry items and gift certificates to thrift stores, laundromats and more. More than 100 gift bags were prepared and distributed Dec. 19.
Receiving organizations included Lutheran Church of Our Savior, Mount Pleasant Church Open Hands Soup and Clothing Ministry, Sussex Community Crisis House, St. Jude Church, Home of the Brave, Barbara K. Brooks Transition House and Casa San Francisco. Each person in each of these facilities received a gift bag.
Bernita Hackney, CHSC program director, started the program last year to help those who are less fortunate.
“It’s a great feeling to be able to be a blessing by blessing someone in need,” said Hackney.
