Cape High students get hands-on practice in safe driving habits

December 3, 2025

Cape Henlopen High School driver’s ed students recently participated in an engaging and impactful safety presentation hosted by the Delaware Division of Alcohol and Tobacco Enforcement Police.

As part of the visit, officers brought a state-of-the-art distracted driving simulator that allowed students to experience firsthand the dangers of driving while texting, using a phone or engaging in other distractions behind the wheel. Through this simulation, students gained a better understanding of how even a momentary lapse in attention can have serious consequences on the road.

Students were encouraged to think critically about how their decisions impact their own safety and the safety of others. The event was not only informative but also highly interactive, sparking meaningful conversations between students and law enforcement officers.

This hands-on learning experience provided students a unique opportunity to connect classroom lessons with real-world application. It is also an opportunity to help prepare students to become responsible, focused and confident drivers now and in the future.
