Cape High theatre students to present ‘Ranked, A New Musical’ Jan. 22-23

Virtual production and Delaware premiere blazes new trails
January 16, 2021

Cape Henlopen High School theatre students will present their first virtual musical/main stage production with the Delaware premiere of “Ranked, A New Musical.” Performances will take place at 7 p.m., Friday, Jan. 22; and 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 23, via a livestream link.

“Ranked” is set amid the turmoil of the college admissions scandal that broke into national news in 2019. With a script by Kyle Holmes, and music and lyrics by David Taylor Gomes, the story follows a barely above-average student named Lily, who is trying to come to terms with her place in the status quo while she watches her classmates attempt to score their way to the top of the academic leaderboard.

CHHS students were able to meet virtually with the show’s creators, which provided a unique and exciting experience for the cast as they prepared for this innovative production.

“There was a time when we weren’t sure what we were going to be able to do in regard to theatre performances,” said theatre director Sadie Andros. “To see our students rise to the occasion of creating a completely virtual performance has been truly remarkable. Despite the obstacles of this school year, our students have proven that anything is possible, and I’m so proud of them for their hard work and dedication to this performance.”
