Cape hockey rolls into postseason with 11-0 win over Dover

The Cape field hockey team closed out the regular season at Dover on a sunny afternoon Oct. 21, shutting out the Dover Senators 11-0. 

The Vikings pulled into the bus barn with 14 shutouts over 15 games, the lone speed bump a 3-2 overtime home loss to Smyrna. 

Postseason play begins for Cape Thursday, Oct. 30. The Division I and Division II brackets will be announced Monday, Oct. 27. 

Cape dominated Dover with a 21-0 shots on goal advantage and a 19- 0 domination in penalty corners. 

Grace Heers had her first career hat trick, followed by Avary Miller and Emily Wells each with two, and single goals from Mairead Rishko, Blair Chubb, Atia Sabbagh and Norak Block. 

Sabbagh had two assists, while Rishko contributed one. 

Dover goalie Nevaeh Rumbley was credited with 20 saves. 

Dover had 11 players in uniform and no JV team. The Senators complete the season with a record of 2-13. 

Cape scored 82 goals (5.5 per game) over 15 games while yielding just three goals on the season.

Cape and Smyrna sit atop the Division I field, while Wilmington Friends and Caravel Academy are the top two in Division II.   

Notes: Cape closed out its youth fall league featuring 80 players in grades K-8. The instructors were the Cape players and coaches. Awards were provided by Total Game Evolution and coach Tracy Greisbaum. Award winners include: K-2 – Avery Scott and Maisie Serman; grades 3-4 – Finley Allen and Linden Sanford; grades 5-8 – Madden Bean and Elizabeth Mills.
