Cape hockey rolled by Sussex Central 10-0 Sept. 17 at Champions Stadium, throttling back after a 9-0 advantage at halftime.
The Vikings are 5-0, all shutouts, posting a 37-0 crooked number for a composite score.
Sussex Central goalie Elizabeth Hicks played awesomely, recording 22 saves while facing 38 shots.
The Vikings had four underclassmen with two goals, including Grace Heers, Ally Diehl, Kaiely McMahon and Atia Sabbagh. Avary Miller and Alysa McCarthy also scored goals.
Cape assists were Sabbagh and Teagan Baker each with two each, and single assists from Miller, Heers, Diehl and Emily Wells.
Cape outshot the Golden Knights 38-0.
Cape now slides into the skillet for the sizzling part of the schedule, playing at Tower Hill at 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 20, before home games versus Delmar and Smyrna. All three programs have won state championships in field hockey.
Note: Cape lost a state tournament quarterfinal game at Tower Hill 2-0 in 2016. The loss stopped a Cape streak of 100 straight wins against Delaware opponents. Cape has played Smyrna the last four years in the state finals of Division I. The Vikings have a 3-1 advantage in those games.
