Cape JROTC team goes to national championship
Cape High’s JROTC leadership team placed 11th in the nation in the national Junior Leadership Academic Bowl Competition in June.
After winning first place in the regional competition, Cadets Clara Rosa-Hertzog, Gavin Felker, William Kucharik and Davi Martins earned a trip to the championship in Washington, D.C., with team coach Cape High JROTC Sgt. 1st Class Richard Hurt.
The leadership team answers a slate of questions and challenges based on JROTC leadership curriculum.
“We were the only team from Delaware to make it,” Hurt said. “Participating makes them better citizens in the classroom and throughout their lives.”
JROTC units may send one leadership team and one academic team to the JLAB Competition each year.
This is the fifth straight year Cape’s leadership team advanced to the finals; Cape’s academic team made it to the national competition the previous four years.
