Cape soccer shuts out Poly

October 6, 2021

The Cape soccer squad moved to 7-2 on the season with a 3-0 victory over Polytech Oct. 5 at Legends Stadium in Lewes.

Nick Panyko scored first off a header after a nice corner pass from Brandon Somoza-Lima at the five-minute mark. Aldo Hernandez-Becerra scored the second goal on a penalty kick at the 27-minute mark to give the Vikings a 2-0 lead at the half. Panyko scored his second goal of the game off a pass from freshman Brandon Loucks at the 68-minute mark.

The Vikings outshot the Panthers 8-3 and held a 4-2 edge in corners.

Cape senior Dalson Case made three saves in the cage, while Polytech’s Stefan Williamson made five.

“We played pretty well tonight,” said Cape coach Patrick Kilby. “We are excited to extend the winning streak to five straight games. We are still exposing ourselves in some aspects, but we are working on it. Senior Night is on Tuesday, and we are excited to honor our seniors as we take on Seaford.”

The Vikings will host the Blue Jays Tuesday, Oct. 12.
