Cape softball head coach Shannon Timmons, entering her sixth season at the helm, has a young but spry group of players this year. The Vikings finished their 2021 season at 10-9, with a 13-3 loss to Padua in the first round of the DIAA playoffs.
Junior Sophie Tighe is the eldest player on the squad, with sophomores Kenna Justice, Ava Simeone and Jay’lyn Slater filling out the veterans. Freshmen Bri Windish, Abby Marsh, Milena Buehler, Alivia Heers, Hayden Hudson and Ava Calciano had stellar careers in middle school and will help boost the Lady Vikings’ talent this season.
Taking over in the circle for 2021 grad Marissa Frederick are Tighe, Marsh and Windish.
“We are looking for all of our hitters to be productive and be complete players,” said Timmons. “We have versatile group of young players and are excited for the season.”
The Vikings will face tough competition with DIAA tournament finalist Sussex Central, while Caesar Rodney, Sussex Tech and Smyrna are always strong opponents.
The 2022 Vikings will open the conference schedule Thursday, March 24, against Caesar Rodney.
