Volleyball teams from Cape and Sussex Academy faced off in the last preseason scrimmage Aug. 27 on the Vikings’ hardwood at Cape.
Cape coach Tyler Coupe was pleased with his team’s performance.
“I thought our defense-to-offense transition was really strong,” said Coupe. “We passed aggressively [and] that allowed us to run some tempo to our left pin which, with our size, can give us an advantage. We really have two to three lineups that have the chance to score points. It’s not something we’ve had in years past. I think our practices will be a great competitive atmosphere, and it will allow us to run different lineups where we see fit come match time.”
Sussex Academy coach Hailee Gooch said the scrimmage was a good experience for her young team.
“We didn’t come out with our best foot forward today, and as expected, Cape brought tough serving and a strong offense,” said Gooch. “It showed us exactly what we need to keep working on so we can step into the upcoming season at our best. These girls may be younger, but they have heart. I’m excited to see how they use this to fuel their growth.”
The Vikings open the season Monday, Sept. 8, with Delmarva Christian at home, while the Seahawks travel to Newark Thursday, Sept. 4, to take on the Yellowjackets.
