Caregiving during a pandemic is Lunch Bunch online topic Sept. 4

September 1, 2020

Delaware Hospice will present The Challenges of Caregiving During the Pandemic, a virtual Lunch Bunch with Dr. Judy Pierson, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 4.

The National Alliance for Caregivers estimates that 65.7 million Americans are caregivers for a disabled or ill relative. Caregiving can be exhausting and difficult under the best of circumstances.

During a pandemic, it is even more challenging. Services such as day treatment programs and in-home care are closed or limited. Caregivers often have to weigh their need for respite against the risks of exposing their loved one to the virus by bringing in help.

Even family member visits can present risks. The isolation, heightened anxiety, and increased responsibility can lead to irritability and burnout. Participants will learn tips and suggestions for handling this stress and fitting in self-care.
