Carney: 'Don't come'

Governor asks Pennsylvanians coming to Delaware bars and restaurants to stay home
November 24, 2020

Gov. John Carney had a message for Pennsylvanians thinking of visiting Delaware bars over the Thanksgiving weekend: Don't come.

“That's our message to those people who are thinking of coming to Delaware,” he said during his weekly press conference Nov. 24.

Acknowledging that the day before Thanksgiving is one of the season’s biggest drinking days as college students and young people return home for the holiday, Pennsylvania officials ordered its bars and restaurants to stop selling alcohol at 5 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 25.

Carney said there will be extra enforcement monitoring establishments to make sure they are in compliance. Currently, that means no more than 30 percent of fire code capacity, and only parties of two can sit at a bar with six feet between groups. Face coverings are required for patrons, and only allowed to be removed when eating or drinking.

“We're going to have zero tolerance for establishments that are out of compliance,” Carney said.
