Ceramic artist John Cooley joins Gallery One in Ocean View

September 15, 2019

The artists of Gallery One in Ocean View are excited to welcome John Cooley.

His delightful ceramic sculptures are favorites in the many local art shows he participates in, including the Rehoboth Art League Outdoor Show, St. Peter’s Art Show in Lewes, and the Neptune Festival in Virginia Beach.

With a bachelor of fine arts degree from the University of Maryland and a master’s degree in art education, Cooley is recently retired from a career as an art educator. He began his career with the National Zoo in Washington, D.C ., and his love of animals has never been far from his heart.

In 2007, influenced by the joyful, spontaneous art of his students, he joined the Rehoboth Art League to take nighttime classes in ceramics. It was here that he began to explore various handbuilding and sculptural techniques to create functional and decorative pieces that expressed a playful mood. In 2009, Cooley won the Best Sculpture Award at the RAL Fine Art Exhibition and decided to pursue juried festivals and shows. He especially enjoys the camaraderie with other artists, and watching the reactions of the public as they enter his booth.

Always staffed by an artist, Gallery One is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day at 32 Atlantic Ave., Route 26, Ocean View. For more information, go to www.galleryonede.com or call 302-537-5055.
