A 9-foot menorah erected at the Baywalk in Dewey Beach was lit Dec. 29, to celebrate the fifth night of Hanukkah. The ceremony was followed by a community celebration.
Entertainment for all ages included festive music and a strolling magician performing card tricks, as well as hot drinks and a selection of traditional Hanukkah foods.
The annual menorah lighting is one of the many events that Chabad of Southern Delaware puts on for the larger Jewish community.
"Making Judaism accessible and available for every Jew in the county is our mission statement,” said Vogel. “Creating a space where every Jew can feel comfortable and at home, safe and accepted is so important to us. The Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, had a vision where every Jew is reached out to, hugged, and given the opportunity to practice and take an active part in their Judaism.”
