Four contestants participated in Chaps Pit Beef’s first Man vs. Food Challenge Aug. 3. Located in Coastal Station on Route 1 behind Iron Hill Brewery, Chaps Pit Beef opened in March. It’s the first non-Maryland franchise for the famous Baltimore eatery.

The 30-minute challenge included eating a sandwich called The Big John, which includes beef, corned beef, turkey, ham and sausage, a small fry, a large mac and cheese, a large drink, and an order of rice pudding.

With the plates of food sitting before the contestants, and the sandwiches still wrapped, owner Gary Desch said the sandwich doesn’t look that big, but when opened, “it’s like, Bang!”
