Charles “Chuck” DeCapri of Dover, 91, passed away Thursday, June 24, 2021, at the Delaware Hospice Center, Milford. Chuck was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., Dec. 16, 1929, the son of the late Charles and Florence DeCapri.
After graduation from high school, he worked in his father’s restaurant, Chuck’s Lunch, until entering the U.S. Navy in 1950. Chuck was a Korean War veteran and was honorably discharged in August 1954. He became involved again in the hospitality industry, working at Grant’s and Valley Dairy in Pennsylvania. He retired and moved to Richmond, Va., and then to Dover, to help care for his elderly father until his passing in 1993. Chuck made Dover his home.
He was a parishioner of The Church of The Holy Cross where he served several years as an usher. Besides Chuck he was also known as Chuckie and Uncle Speedy, and loved keeping in touch with his nieces and nephews. He loved the ladies, talking about the Navy days, and was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers. In his spare time he enjoyed raising his Saint Bernard puppies.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Ella Mae Johnson; a brother, Robert DeCapri; and sister Barbara Fazio.
Chuck is survived by his sister Judith Dewey of Dover; many nieces and nephews in Delaware, Virginia, Illinois, Florida and California, and special friends Sarah and Jake Zeece,
Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 6, at The Church of The Holy Cross, 631 S. State St., Dover,followed by Military Honors.
Visitation will be held 6 to 8 p.m., Monday July 5, at The Funeral Home of Michael J. Ambruso, 1175 S. State St., Dover. Interment will be 10 a.m., Thursday, July 8, in Delaware Veterans Memorial Park, Bear.
