Christine Margaret Hamilton, retired educator

July 11, 2019

It is with great sadness to announce that our beautiful mom Christine Margaret Hamilton, 72, of Rehoboth Beach passed away peacefully Friday, June 28, 2019, at her home. Born June 10, 1947, in North Plainfield, N.J., Christine was the daughter of the late James and Avanell Thomson.

Christine was a devoted mother and grandmother, and always put her children and grandchildren ahead of everything else. She attended their athletic games, concerts and celebrations, and always made each one feel special. Christine was a dedicated teacher; she received her bachelor’s degree in education from Delaware State University and went on to complete her master’s degree in elementary curriculum and reading at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg. Christine taught elementary school at W. Riley Brown and retired from the Caesar Rodney School District.

Christine loved learning about different cultures, meeting people, and traveling. She most recently toured the national parks in northwest America with her boyfriend Terry Chase. They also spent time each year making maple syrup and harvesting honey in Michigan. Christine loved visiting friends and relatives, and spent each year as a snowbird traveling to camp in the Everglades as well as staying in her condo in Englewood, Fla., where much of her family lives.

In addition to her parents, Christine was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Russell D. Hamilton who passed away in 1994. She is survived by her son, Gregory J. Heimall Jr. and his wife Tracy of Jacksonville, N.C.; her daughter, Jennifer H. Bobel and her husband Bryan of Rehoboth Beach; her sister, Janet Nystrom and her husband Wade of Floyd, Va.; her brothers: James Thomson and his wife Laura and Robert Thomson and his wife Nicole of Englewood;  her grandchildren who were the light of her life: Gregory J. Heimall III and his wife Tina of Fayetteville, N.C., Michael A. Heimall and his partner Katie of Providence, R.I., Chelsea C. Farina and her husband Marc of Bear, Madison M. Fraas and her husband Jacob of McGuire AFB, N.J., and Jack A. Bobel, and Hannah G. Bobel of Rehoboth Beach; her three great-grandchildren whom she loved to pieces: Ellie and Gianna Farina and Logan Heimall; her nieces: Kristine Pelphrey, Kim Phelps, Tracy Williams, Raeann Romero and Teal Thomson; her nephews: Scott Thomson, Marshall Thomson, Tyler Thomson, Austin Thomson, and Jay Salvesen and their families.

A celebration of Christine's life will take place at Rehoboth Beach at the end of August when her grandson Greg completes Naval Officer Candidate School. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Lewes.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Christine's memory may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's research at www.michaeljfox.org.
