Christopher Smail Memorial Scholarship awarded to Daniel Lowe

Recognizes exemplary service to the library
July 14, 2015

In a ceremony in the Delaware Room of the Lewes Public Library June 26, Daniel Lowe received the 2015 Christopher Smail Memorial Scholarship. The $1,000 scholarship recognizes exemplary service to the library by volunteer students.

Lowe is a 2015 graduate of Cape Henlopen High School. He has volunteered at the circulation desk, provided valuable input as a member of the Teen Advisory Board, and created and moderated Minecraft tournaments for school-aged children. The scholarship will help pay for college expenses at the University of Virginia, where Lowe plans to study biomedical engineering as a Rodman Scholar.

Karen Smail presented the scholarship and plaque, showing all scholarship winners. Small is the mother of Christopher Smail, a 2010 graduate of Cape Henlopen High School and recipient of the award. Christopher was a long-time teen volunteer at the library who died in an automobile crash in November 2010. In 2011 the scholarship was renamed in his honor.
