Civil Air Patrol formal change of command set Aug. 28 in Georgetown

August 23, 2018

The Civil Air Patrol Coastal Patrol Base 2 Memorial Composite Squadron will hold a formal change of command at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 28 at the Delaware Coastal Airport Emergency Operations Center.

Lt. Col. Kay Rudo will be relinquishing command of the unit, and Maj. David Morrow will be assuming command. Delaware Wing Commander Col. Robert Mooney will preside.

A change of command is a military tradition that represents a formal transfer of authority and responsibility for a unit from one commanding officer to another. The passing of colors and standards from an outgoing commander to an incoming one ensures that the unit and its airmen are never without official leadership and that there is a continuation of trust. It also signifies an allegiance of airmen to their unit's commander.

Coastal Patrol Base 2 Memorial Composite Squadron currently has 20 cadets and 32 senior members. Morrow leads the squadron, which meets at 7 p.m. every Tuesday at the Sussex EOC at Delaware Coastal Airport in Georgetown. All are welcome to visit and see what its activities are about and how its volunteers serve the community, county, state and nation.

Civil Air Patrol, the official U.S. Air Force Auxiliary, is a nonprofit organization with almost 62,000 members nationwide. It performs 95 percent of continental U.S. inland search and rescue missions as tasked by the Air Force Rescue and Coordination Center.

The members take a leading role in aerospace education and serve as mentors to almost 27,000 young people currently participating in Civil Air Patrol cadet programs. Civil Air Patrol has been performing missions for America for more than 60 years.
