Just in time for Thanksgiving, Rehoboth’s Community Resource Center distributed meals for families who would otherwise have trouble celebrating the holiday.

Standing in the Community Resource Center parking lot Nov. 21, Director Jo Allegro-Smith said roughly 200 meals will be distributed over three separate days. Lots of people came together to make the distribution possible, she said, crediting Mountaire Farms, Food Bank of Delaware and many volunteers.

“People are really struggling this year,” said Allegro-Smith.

People who received boxes of food, which contained a chicken or turkey, rice, canned vegetables, cranberry sauce, dessert and bread, signed up in advance with the number of people being served. Allegro-Smith said if a person shows up asking for more, they try to accommodate as much as possible.

“We’re trying to be nimble,” said Allegro-Smith. “We really try and treat people with dignity here. It’s not easy for them to sign up and ask for help.”
