Concrete dune crossing must be removed

February 27, 2026

I’ve been following the Prime Hook Beach concrete dune crossing story since it was first published and was not surprised when the homeowner filed for an appeal on the removal orders from DNREC.

I did think it was bold for the homeowner to offer suggestions to DNREC on what should be done to move forward. I think anything short of removal, restoration of the dunes and appropriate fines implemented would set a precedent that anyone dune-front can install their own concrete driveway through the dune with access to the beach.

I do have some suggestions that I think the homeowner might have missed: Why not flatten the dunes and just blacktop from the homes right to the water line? You could then easily stripe it for property lines, boat access, bike paths and, yes, even for the wildlife moving through. And since you’ve come this far, why not keep on going? Install a 100-foot pier out into the bay just in case Amazon starts making boat deliveries.
