Conley’s UM Church hosts Annual Gospel Sing

September 13, 2011

Conley’s United Methodist Church held its sixth annual Gospel Sing Sept. 11. It was an afternoon of heavenly music by an assortment of performers including local talent and Conley’s members. Music selections ranged from old traditional hymns, to gospel tunes, to modern praise and worship songs. Event organizer Pat Short said, “It is such a blessing to have the Gospel Sing in the spacious new church.”

The first five Gospel Sings were held in the old Conley’s Chapel on Robinsonville Road. The new church on Jolyns Way, off Route 24 near Peddler’s Village, is much larger than the old chapel, and it has a modern sound system. Short is looking forward to next year since attendance has increased every year.

This year’s performers included Gregg Fuller, Lori and Robert Lee, Lori Jones, Cathy Gorman, Christina and Don Gaul, Linda Chantler, Sophie Schmitt, Pastor Mike and Ann Hurley, Charlie Marshall, Conley’s Choir, Conley’s Praise Band, and several smaller groups from the choir. At the end of the performance, all the singers and bands joined forces for a stirring rendition of “This is America.”
