Delaware shines in All-Women Lifeguard Tournament

Sea Colony Beach Patrol took top honors at the 2019 All-Women Lifeguard Tournament July 31 in Sandy Hook, N.J.

Sea Colony placed first in Division I with 142 points. Lavallette, N.J. was second with 82 points. Middlesex Beach Patrol and South Bethany Beach Patrol finished seventh and eighth, respectively. 

Bethany Beach Patrol finished ninth in Division II, while Rehoboth Beach was 11th. 

Marlee Evans of Sea Colony won the distance beach run, while Maggie Ford and Christine Mountain of South Bethany were second and fifth, respectively. Megan Perdue of Sea Colony finished sixth in the event, but took second in beach flags. 

Emily Ritter of Rehoboth won the Division II distance beach run. 

Winning the iron woman event was Alexandra Santer of Sea Colony. Erin Haden of Middlesex, Hannah Venables of Sea Colony and Emma Barthelmess of Middlesex placed fifth, sixth and eighth, respectively. 

The ocean kayak race was won by Cindy Fajardo of Sea Colony. 

Santer and Venables of Sea Colony went 1-2 in the run-paddle-run race. Middlesex’s Haden and Lauren McCoy were fifth and eighth, respectively. 

Sea Colony won the run relay, while South Bethany finished fifth and Middlesex sixth. Sea Colony also won the swim run relay. 

Fajardo teamed with Santer to win the surf boat challenge. Then Santer and Kelsey Fowler won the surf rescue competition. 

Bethany Beach’s Miranda Johns and Carol Zangla finished third in the Division II competition.
