Delaware Tech celebrates triumphs and achievements

October 23, 2018

Delaware Technical Community College Owens Campus recently held a Celebration of Giving and Alumni Success.

Community members heard personal stories of success and triumph from students, watched as an outstanding graduate was honored among distinguished alumni, and had the opportunity to thank several donors and supporters who were inducted into the Legacy Society.

First, four students told how they overcame personal and professional obstacles to make their way to Delaware Tech, and how appreciative they were for the support they received upon walking through the doors. Ashley Armes, Star DeRepentigny, Elisha Marks and Connor Watkins each shared their journey to Delaware Tech, and thanked all of those who have helped them along the way.

Next, Janet and George Evancho, Kim Fischer, Jennie Keith and Roy Fitzgerald, Ellan Levitsky Orkin and Mary Lee Phillips were all recognized as members of the Legacy Society. These distinguished individuals contribute cumulative lifetime gifts of at least $50,000 and/or have announced their intention to leave a donation to the college via a bequest, charitable gift annuity or any other form of planned giving. Membership includes individuals contributing through personal funds, personal or family foundations, or small businesses.

Finally, a new name was added to the Distinguished Alumni/Walk of Success, as Jeffrey T. Benson Jr., a 2011 graduate in marketing and management, received the honor. Benson, a veteran of the United States Air Force, is founder of the Benson Development Group, a financial and consulting firm, and One Direction Insurance. He received his bachelor’s degree in marketing from Wilmington University, currently serves on the Seaford School District Board of Education, and is the co-founder of Sussex County Action Prevention Coalition, the chair of the 39th Delaware Democratic District, and a member of the Delaware Vision Coalition Leadership Team, among other things.
