DelDOT announces Name That Plow contest winners
The Delaware Department of Transportation recently announced the winners of its fifth annual Name That Plow Contest. Nearly 300 submissions were received this year, with students from across Delaware showing off their creativity, clever wordplay and snow-themed humor.
The 2026 winner for Sussex County is Han Snowlo, submitted by students at Phillis Wheatley Elementary School in Bridgeville.
“Following a storm like the one we recently experienced, our crews put in long hours under challenging conditions to ensure Delawareans can travel safely,” said DelDOT Secretary Shanté Hastings. “The Name That Plow contest is a fun and engaging way to shine a spotlight on the hardworking men and women behind the wheel and the equipment they operate. It gives our students a chance to connect with the important work happening on our roadways.”
“Our students were thrilled to see their idea come to life! Opportunities like this make learning fun, and show them that their voices and creativity truly matter. This experience has been such an exciting way for our students to connect with the community. We are so proud to represent Phillis Wheatley Elementary School with Han Snowlo,” said Savannah Spotz, a third-grade teacher at the school.
DelDOT maintains more than 300 pieces of snow-removal equipment statewide, and is responsible for plowing and treating nearly 14,000 lane miles of roadway. The agency also offers its snowplow tracker during winter storm events on deldot.gov and the DelDOT mobile app.
