DelDOT reaches agreement for Primehook Beach access
The Delaware Department of Transportation has agreed to pay a private road owner $500 a day to provide access into Primehook Beach until Friday, Sept. 30.
DelDOT has reached an agreement with the owners of a private road to provide temporary access to the beach while crews repair Prime Hook Road. Once work on the road is complete, DelDOT will terminate the temporary easement, spokeswoman Tina Shockley said.
Flooding caused by Hurricane Irene destroyed parts of Prime Hook Road making it impassable. The agreement requires the state to pay $500 per day in return for an easement that allows 24-hour access for residents, their guests and critical services. No construction vehicles other than vans and pickup trucks will be allowed into the area. DelDOT will monitor the road and keep a log of those entering and exiting via the private road, Shockley said.
Residents may access the area through the temporary access road between North Bay Shore Drive and Wilkerson Road. Residents are directed to take Route 1 to Broadkill Road to North Bay Shore Drive. From North Bay Shore Drive residents are able to access the temporary road through to Wilkerson Road and beyond.
A copy of the agreement is available upon request. Those interested in viewing may contact DelDOT’s office of public relations at 1-800-652-5600 or 302-760-2080.
