DelDOT should leave Plantations alone

May 7, 2024

When I read your article on DelDOT’s plan to run four lanes and bikeway past the communities on Plantation Road, I actually winced! I once lived in Plantations West, and I still miss the green spaces I enjoyed there.

The Plantations HOA is ready to accept three lanes instead of DelDOT’s four-lane, bike path plan. Their option seems quite reasonable to me. DelDOT can build a highway that connects to major roads located above and below the Plantations communities. Some of the resources DelDOT saves could be used to extend the road that runs past the new Beebe hospital up to Route 9.

Currently, I live near Cape Henlopen High School, so I’ve been watching DelDOT’s plans to create a four-lane, five-roundabout highway to Route 1. As far as I can tell, this big plan leaves pretty much alone the section that goes through a commercial strip near Lewes. So I ask: what’s the difference between this commercial strip and the Plantations communities? Why not treat them the same way?
