Delmar hockey beats Caravel 4-1 for fifth straight state title

Maci Bradford scores first and last
December 13, 2020

The Delmar Wildcats are the Kansas City Chiefs of high school field hockey. They are quick at every position and always moving the ball toward the circle, hockey’s red zone. There are some beasts in the lineup like Josie Hollamon and Maci Bradford, but every player on the team can snap without warning like a coach’s clipboard.

Bradford scored at 5:05 of the first period, then Hollamon drilled home a goal to begin the second period. That is close to an insurmountable lead when battling the Cats, but the Caravel Bucs’ fans base was bellicose, and players went body then ball – it got physical.

Taylor Youngson scored at 6:46 of the second to close the score to 2-1, but Olivia Twilley answered at 2:46 off an assist from Hollamon to make the score 3-1.

Bradford would score on a penalty stroke with 6:05 remaining, giving Delmar its fifth straight field hockey state title.

The Wildcats outshot the Buccaneers 18-1, with a 23-0 advantage in penalty corners.

Alex Boettcher had 15 saves for the Bucs, while Kelly Davis had one save for Delmar.
