Delmarva Accessibility keeps homes convenient

Owner Paul Scianella serves all of Sussex County with ramps, special stairs, grab bars
February 22, 2024

Looking to meet the needs of Sussex County’s growing population, Paul Scianella has started Delmarva Accessibility.

The business builds accessibility devices such as wheelchair ramps, grab bars in tubs and more, said Scianella, who recently retired from a government job.

The company also does accessible staircases that allow people to navigate entryways without a ramp. Scianella said there are a lot of people who are sensitive about having a ramp installed, so these stairs, which are half the height of normal stairs, are a good alternative.

Delmarva Accessibility can build metal or wood ramps, depending on what the customer wants, said Scianella. A metal ramp can be put together in a few hours, while a wood ramp can take days to build, he said.

Scianella said he’s been building ramps for charity groups for 35 years on the side. He said the business started after people kept calling about having ramps installed and saying they would be happy to pay, because they couldn't even get another contractor to come out and look, he said.

There’s a big demand for ramps right now, but there are only one or two other companies specializing in the service, said Scianella.
