Delmarva Christian High School to hold technology open house March 19

March 8, 2011

All families interested in Delmarva Christian High School are invited to a special Technology Open House scheduled for 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, March 19. The event will introduce attendees to the technology being used at the school to enhance learning.

Although iPads will be issued to all DCHS students starting with the 2011-12 school year, chemistry and Advanced Placement chemistry students have begun an iPad and Moodle pilot program this year for classroom and lab work.

“Using technology has provided the opportunity to present material in a much more engaging way,” said science teacher Kim Henry. “I’ve found that the students respond positively to the rich visuals and graphics, resulting in greater student interaction. Students can’t be passive learners.” More importantly, Henry finds that technology provides quick feedback while teaching.

“I am able to adapt my lessons midstream should I find that the class isn’t grasping a concept,” said Henry. “Students are not being left behind. It is very exciting.”

During the Technology Open House, attendees will also see media created by students in the digital design media classes using the new iMac lab, learn about the SmartBoards being used in the classrooms including the advanced calculus classes, and talk to teachers who are using the mobile Mac lab to assess learning in a whole new way.

Technology presentations will begin at the top of each hour. Teachers will be available throughout the morning to discuss how they are using technology in their classrooms. Tours of the school will also be available.
