After dropping matches to Ursuline and Padua, the Delmarva Christian volleyball team took the Wilmington Christian team to task and got back on the winning track with a 25-7, 25-6, 25-16 victory Sept. 28 in Georgetown.
Senior Elaina Millaway led the Royals at the net with 20 kills. She also served seven aces.
“I think this match will give us a lot of confidence,” Millaway said. “It was not our toughest match, so we had to work on keep our energy up. It was sort of a quiet game. It will help us with our encouragement and then give us more confidence moving forward.”
Senior Layni Dukes, moved from libero to outside hitter, slammed six aces and five kills in the match.
“It was good for our confidence on the court,” said Dukes. “We’ve had a couple of tough losses, so it’s great to get back, to come back with a big win. It was fun and it’ll prepare us for the next few games.”
Senior setter Keely Kondracki put up 27 assists in the match, while freshman libero Morgan Stevenson bumped seven digs and served an ace.
The Jones sisters, Katherine and Madison, teamed with Taylor Lowe to roof seven blocks and pound seven kills. Khushi Patel knocked down a kill to round out the scoring.
“The team continues to improve and mesh together,” said Royals head coach John Luong. “We had a tough schedule and a rough start, but our spirits remain high.”
