Dewey looks to build longest sandcastle

Organizers hope to top last year’s 65-foot structure
June 13, 2019

Grab your shovels and buckets and head to Dewey Beach Saturday, June 15, to help build what officials hope will be the longest sandcastle on the East Coast.

Last year, sandsculptors of all ages collaborated to build a 65-foot castle extending from both sides of Dagsworthy Avenue in front of the Lifesaving Station.

Darrell O’Connor, nine-time winner of the Rehoboth Beach sandcastle contest, will be on hand once again to give a tutorial on sandcastle techniques, showing how to build towers, patios and stairs with moist sand.

Participants of all ages are welcome to join the fun. The event kicks off at 10 a.m., and the official measuring will take place at 1 p.m.
